Johnson Farm P-Patch
The Johnson Farm P-Patch has been a community garden for 24 years.

It was created by Friends of the Farms in 2001 on an iconic family farm that has its roots deep into Bainbridge Island history. Today there are 14 year-round community garden plots, each measuring approximately 8’ by 25’ or 200 sq/ft. For $65/year, P-patchers can grow year-round, with seasonal access to irrigation from the nearby pond, locked tool storage, and deer fencing.
Long-time P-patcher, Eric Matthews says,”… I may be the only remaining gardeners of original P-patch folks. I was lucky enough to be at that meeting 24 years ago at the Bainbridge Island Senior Center when they drew a lottery for the first gardeners. I was the third number drawn, so was given garden plot #3 and have been there all these years! Over two decades and a lot of gardening hours later, Eric still remains committed to his lovely plot in this amazing spot.
While much newer to this community and these gardens, Michael Landowski and Anna Deninn have enjoyed getting their hands in the dirt and shared, ”… gardening at Johnson Farm has been one of the best experiences we have had since moving to Bainbridge Island.”
In addition to growing food for their families and to donate to Helpline House, the P-patch is place for social connection, sharing seeds and gardening tips.
